Holyrood Palace and Abbey

Holyrood (HOLLy-rude) Palace is the Queen's official residence in Scotland. They didn't let us take pictures inside but the lush gardens and romantically ruined Holyrood Abbey which is said to have inspired Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony were the most beautiful parts anyway. Yes, everything really was this green and gorgeous in person.

 Approaching the palace.

Royal Company of Archers happened to be out competing for the Queen's prize on the afternoon of our visit. They used to be the sovereign's official bodyguard in Scotland.

 Ready...aim...fire!

 Another view of Holyrood Abbey.

 Another shot of the gardens.

12th century meets 21st.
